We have a saying in Portuguese that says Seagulls on shore, storm at sea! And there they were. A great number of gulls were flying over the shore but looking at the sea there seemed to be no storm in sight.
When I arrived at the beach today it was actually sunny and a bit warm. Some tourists had even gone as far as wearing their swimsuits, in a desperate attempt to pretend we were already in summer.
The seagulls were on the beach but instead of announcing a storm they seemed to be just having fun, searching and fighting for food.
They fly often over the sea but they never seem to go far, always coming back. like they have the need to feel grounded.
I feel like a seagull often. I fly and travel a lot but always feel the urge to come back where I feel grounded. Although I have lived in different countries and continents, I always feel I only touch the surface slightly before I have to pack and leave again. At some point you feel you have lost your roots and the line between the sea and the shore has been erased by the sand.
Then you go back, you find your shore again, you put your feet on the sand and you can distinguish between the land and the sea once more. You know it is only temporary, soon you will have to fly again but for the moment you have fun too and then you wait and hope the storm will never come so that you can stay a bit longer.
